Bashment, Video Lights, & the Rae Rae

WORLD CLASH 2000 this year featured  Pow Pow from Germany, Little Rock from New Jersey, Bass Odessey from Jamaica, Kilimanjaro from Jamaica, Mighty Crown from Japan and Tony Matterhorn from New York.
The clash last year featured a major upset as the Underdog, Mighty Crown defeated both Tony Matterhorn and Kilimanjaro alumnus Ricky Trooper.  Although Mighy Crown reliquished the title of World Clash champions this year to Kilimanjaro, it still was a surprise as many people didn't think that Freddy Hype, despite having Jaro's deep dub box, could win the clash, as Trooper is often felt to have been the star force behind Jaro.
This clash proved to be a stong night for not only Jaro, but for Bass Odessey who led the dance for the majority of the night, and for Tony Matterhorn who made it to the dub-fi-dub.  Mighty Crown, had the strongest round of the night, but their 3rd round was weak, and they  got voted out before the dub-fi-dub.

Lady SawLady Saw is climbing the pop charts with her guest apperance on Vitamin C's song "Smile" (no, its NOT Patra on that track). Glad for Saw to see big thing happening, for real.

Althea and DonnaWell clearly Althea & Donna are not in their "Heels and ting " any more, but props goes out to these original Uptown Top Ranking deejays trying to make a comeback .
simont.gif (48879 bytes) The show in New York with Buju, Beres, Spragga, Singing Melody etc. in Queens was excellent, except for MC Simon Templar trying to "shoo" off Spragga Benz. However, he got his just desserts as the audience pelted him with a barrage of plastic bottles and garbage.
Thanks to Ajamu for donating these truly classic pics.

Tiger

OK, I admit it, I am feeling Zebra, well sort of.   And the Lord knows we can always make room for a comedian in the dancehall.

But, its been way too long since I last saw the great Tiger, so I figured to give the spolight to the artist who truly did "Ram Dancehall" for years.

Shabba Ranks returns to the NYC stage

Shabba Ranks

Bad bad dutty stinkin' Shabba made the 3,000 people plus people get up, stand up, and rock at Amazura.

He brought out Major Mackeral, Sluggy Ranks, and Jr. Demus to tribute to the pay tribute old school .

I know most of you didn't hear much about him in years except for every few months that he got locked up on some weed charge, but I am telling you....he is still my dancehall king and can still rock a mic and ride a rhythm like no other...

Before Shabba was Lady Saw who, raunchy-as-ever, had one of her best shows she has had up here in years.   And the night was closed by Sanchez, who, although is a long time favourite, started after 5 a.m. and we just couldnt stay up any more.
SCARE DEM AT WESTCHESTER REGGAE FEST

Scare Dem Collage
Boom Dandimite, Nitty Cutchie, and  Elephant Man taken by Allyson Ione

You gotta love the capes that Scare Dem wore at this show.

Climbing speakers and swinging from  the rafters were of course part of the act which included all the members of the crew except Harry Toddler.

From across the stage we got a peep at some plates and chairs flying at the imfamous Monster Shack/ Scare Dem food fight. But photographer Allyson Ione got the inside shot.... Monster Shack & Scare Dem Crew
