Dancehall Minded Crew Tribute to Dennis Brown
Dennis Brown Obituary | More David Corio Pics
July 1, 1999 was a sad day indeed for reggae fans all over the world as we lost Dennis Emmanuel Brown.  His passing was particularly felt by the crew of Dancehall Minded who mourned the loss of the legendary singer.  Here the thoughts and tributes to the Prince have been collected to honor his life and accomplishments.

It's no secret that Mr. Brown is one of the major reasons why I've loved reggae music so much for the last few years. No other artist has managed to capture my soul like the Prince...Big up my partner T-Reble, who introduced me to his favorite song: "How Could I Leave" when we first got together...From that point on, I was hooked. My Dennis Brown record collection is second to none, and he has too many classics to even mention, but this crucial Prince Studio One cyber selection is reaching out to D. Brown fans worlwide: "Ever since you've been away, every day is just a cloudy day, but I don't know if it's rain from the sky, tear from my eyes, falling down my face, and rolling down my cheek..." I once told a friendthat reggae music was the most powerful music on earth, when he asked me for proof, I gave him a copy of that Studio One album...A few days later, he called me and told me that I was right...Big up Scarface & Father Pie who taught me a long time ago that voicing dj's was a waste of time..."Lovezone since you've been away, I've been down and lonely..." BOOM SHOT!!! Dennis Brown was Bob Marley's favorite voice, and in my opinion, the greatest vocalist of all-time. My life will never be the same...The music & the world will surely miss him...Trust me, even with all his recent lung problems, the Prince still had the magic...I suggest that all the boardies call Don One studio and inquire on getting their hands on the album he voiced there last year...CRUCIAL!!!

Just a bit more: Dennis Brown, one of the founding giants of Jamaica's reggae movement, leaves a wife and 13 children. He recorded more than 50
solo albums, plus numerous duets and singles.

I couldn't even post today (other than news clips) once I found out. He is my favorite singer. I have seen him live about thirty times, the last one
being about six months ago at Club Large for Twelve Tribes Dance. My girlfriends & I would all pile into my car, get some wine & spliffs, nuff D. Brown tapes for the two or three or four hour drive... I thought those days would NEVER end! He was scheduled to be in Springfield Mass this July 17th and I was looking forward to it so much. So many times in Jamaica I would drive six hours to see him perform, or sometimes be lucky enough to see him across the street. I have been numb all day, to say the least. Playing every D.Brown music I can find in my house, I have grown up listening to his music, as you all have I know. And so many dances, when they put on one of my favorite D.Brown songs, me in the corner with my collie... dancing, like heaven on earth sometimes! And I am going to do something tonight that I rarely do... drink some liquor and continue playing D.Brown music and sit here in misery. And all the songs that I DON'T have in my tape collection (my record player is broken) but I can "re-wind" in my head some of my favorite songs and hear them perfectly perfect.

REGGAE MUSIC CAN NOT REFUSE IT

Hail Massive!
To often we overlook the little things in life and when they are gone we regret not paying more attention, not being more appreciative or even being
grateful. To me D.Brown was everything that was right with reggae music. I remember the listing to sounds like Gemmi, Papa Roots (the Socialist
Roots) and Virgo play D.Brown and how captivating the man voice and music was (and still is). Songs like, Here I come, Should I, Whip them Jah
Jah, Wolves and Leopard, and my favorite Sitting and Watching remind me of my youthful days in the land of milk and honey and how great it was
to be a part of the whole reggae thing.

However, I am sadden by how uncaring some of us are and how we are so pre-occupied by the cause of his death, instead of focusing on his
legacy. The sad part is he was never given the recognition or accollades he deserved and now that he is gone, people are now singing his praise.
Huh!!

Take a moment to say a prayer for D.Brown and all the other wonderful talents we have lost.

Rest in peace DENNIS EMMANUEL BROWN -" NO MORE WILL I ROAM"

Respect...

PS. For anyone interested he had two CDs out with a whole slew of his works.. Wolf & Leopards and The Dennis Brown Collection..

sonic sounds 20 hit cds..and mourning the Prince

This D Brown news got me in the classics mood. Sonic Sounds has cds for numerous artists. They all have 20 hits and it is usually the best cd you
can find for the artist (based on previous purchasing experience). Some of the artists featured include: Sugar Minott, Black Uhuru, B Levy, D
Brown (I think although the one I have may be another label??), Frankie P (him really like likkle boys?!), ... These cds feature the early classics of
an artist and the general time period is late 70's/early 80's- one of my favorite periods for reggae... stay strong boardies and be thankful that D
Brown's addiction is finally over.. nuff sufferation. Addiction nah easy- that's why it's so important to spread the message to the yut to stay off..
experimentation turns into sufferation. Skim in mourning...

Now thinking of "If this world were mine, I'd play rub-a-dub all the time..." D Brown(revolution riddim)

I know those... and my eyes are full up ah water ah work right now, king...I can't believe this is true...Dennis Brown has been an inspiration to me for a long
time...it was his tune (Get My Self Together and Wolves and Lepoards) that first turned my head to foundation music, right before I decided to buy
two turntables and start a sound...when I first came to Atl and didn't know anyone as yet I used to sit in my room and listen to the Revolution album
over and over bredren....I can't believe it...

Life,..What A Fragile Thing.
Hail,

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

—Gen. George S. Patton, Jr.

Once you accept your own death, all of a sudden you're free to live. You no longer care about your reputation. You no longer care except so far as
your life can be used tactically to promote a cause you believe in.

—Saul Alinsky

All but too often we've been here, grieving for someone who passed on to a better place. However,..this one just feels different, at least for me. I
grew up listenning to Dennis Brown,..his work, his passion, why in turn gave me strength and fuel to put up with the madness. I admired him for
dealing with is vices, and yet still maintaining a professional edge to continue to bring sweet music to the ears and hearts of many. It ain't easy losing
someone whom you attribute your whole being to, and it gets no easy as you try to move, knowing that this figure ain't around.

Whenever I had a bad day at work...listen to Dennis, life's problems? listen to Dennis...for 14 years this man has been my medicine. I wake up
each morning to some Dennis Brown song, anything....this morning I was listenning to Peter Blacks mix of some vintage DB tunes at a recent
dance.

Needless to say this man was the pinnacle of my reggae music tower. I don't think anyone will miss him more than I.

Rest In Peace Dennis Emmanuel Brown....your biggest fan is gonna miss you terribly.

Kid...
